A monument to Karl Marx in Chemnitz, then Karl Marx City (de: Karl-Marx-Stadt). 
In line with Karl Marx’s personal ideology, the government of the German Democratic Republic put forward an effort to drive away from Prussian history and connections between East Germany and Prussia, focusing instead on the Peasant Wars of the Protestant Reformation and the class struggle during the 19th century industrialization.
